Isn't blockchain just a fancy word for Bitcoin?
Speaker: Jo Anna Parker Martin -- Office of Information Security at Rice University
It seems today that everyone is talking about the buzzwords "decentralization", "blockchain" and "distributed ledger technology" (also known as DLT). These terms are often used interchangeably but there are distinct differences between them and many variations in application.
How will this actually impact my job or industry?
There will be a brief dive into these technologies and terms, including examples of some real world existing applications. We will also touch on the potential impact to the tech industry as well.
Lunch is provided. This is our monthly educational meetup that is held on the second Wednesday each month. Our meetups are designed to help foster meaningful connections, providing advocacy for the Information Technology field, exploring industry trends, and administering continuing education with controlled vendor participation.
Jo Anna Parker Martin is a member of the Information Security Office at Rice University. It was there she got interested in blockchain technologies and took it upon herself to research the topic in some depth as a hobby. At least deep enough to form strong opinions about its potential future applications. She will take some time next month to proselytize her views until every member if the audience is a convert. When JoAnna is not on the clock she is perfecting the perfect cup of coffee and devouring her husband's barbecue.
